US-Made Grenades Used in Mexican Drug War In news from Mexico, the Washington Post reports grenades made in the United States and sent to Central America during the 1980s and ?90s are now being used by Mexican drug cartels. There have been more than seventy-two grenade attacks in Mexico in the last year, including assaults on police convoys and public officials. The majority of the grenades have been traced back to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, countries where the US sent hundreds of thousands of hand grenades in the 1980s and early 1990s. One of the most common hand grenades found in Mexico is the US-made M67. Between 1980 and 1993, the Reagan and Bush administrations sent some 266,000 M67 grenades to El Salvador. The European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG) is seeking to ensure the attendance of Iker Casillas, Spanish goalkeeper who wrested the 2010 World Cup on the national squad, and his countryman and world's top tennis player, Rafael Nadal, Israeli website Ynetnews reported on Thursday, quoting London-based daily Al-Hayat as saying. The seaborne mission, dubbed Freedom Flotilla II, would leave in September to break Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip. Tel Aviv put the Gaza blockade into effect in mid-June 2007, reinforcing the restrictions it had already put in place. Ever since, the siege has deprived the 1.5 million Gazans of food, fuel and other necessities. ECESG also helped organize the Freedom Flotilla, which came under a bloody Israeli attack before reaching the coastal sliver. The assault in international waters killed nine Turkish activists, triggering global outrage and worldwide pleas for an international investigation. Casillas, meanwhile, shunned championship celebrations in his native land, citing "deep sorrow over what happened in Gaza," the Al-Hayat report said. "It's unthinkable that people take part (in the celebrations) and laugh after seeing what is going on in the Gaza Strip". The jubilations are "partial, as long as the Gaza Strip remains besieged," he added. Nadal also condemned "Israel's aggression against the Gaza Strip" during Operation Cast Lead, which killed more than 1,400 Palestinians at the turn of 2009.

Health-care Tuesday, 15 June 2010 Because she (Kathy Myers, 41) didn't have health insurance, a Michigan woman concocted a plan to force doctors to fix her sprained shoulder: She shot herself, police say. In the shoulder, specifically, thinking that doctors would be forced to patch up the sprain at the same time. Sadly, they did not. It's not clear yet whether the woman will face criminal charges. ------------------------------------------------ With the 2010 election coming to a head and both the US Congress and Senate falling down on the job with universal health-care we are faced with option two. The Florida State House of Representatives is the next logical step towards having a new statewide plan put in place by law. The next or third option is to collect signatures and have the whole state vote in Amendment form.
